Salvador Dali

MYTHOLOGY

* * *

First great collaboration between the couple Pierre & Geneviève ARGILLET with the Artist, Salvador DALI will take 4 years to engrave the 16 coppers making up this series, by bringing all the care in the details of each subject. Starting from the symbolism attached to Greek Mythology using its technique based on the “ Objective Random”, he will start to work each subject with simple spots or projections in motion that he will then specify to lead, after a long work of engraving, to quite detailed subjects. This process is particularly noticeable on «Oedipus and the Sphinx», «Theseus and the Minotaur», «Jupiter», «Pegasus» and «The Milky Way».

Dalí also experimented in this series different tools very unconventional such as nails, scissors and points of all kinds to obtain the rendering he wanted, as on «The Birth of Venus» for example. For «Medusa» on the other hand, it is by plunging a real octopus into the acid that he managed to restore the tentacles on the copper plate.
